~Define Necessity~

"Everybody can be great...because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love." ♥ Martin Luther King, Jr.
How about this year we give a little more than we take?

Senior Projects

Hey Everyone! Sabrina and I (Rachel) are seniors this year and along with that comes the wonderful responsibility of a senior project. Becca, a junior, has a jump start on her project and is actually using this entire trip as that project. But this year Sabrina and I would like to do a similar project specifically for the orphans we will be with in Ghana. We are gathering supplies, toys and needed necessities of all kinds to bring to these children in need. To put it bluntly: they have practically nothing. We are gathering toys (ones that would be fun outside), paper, coloring books, colored pencils, pencils and erasers, pens, tooth brushes, tooth paste and all other hygiene items. We are also going to have T-shirts made with our logo and names to bring to the children to decorate with them while we are there. We are looking for donations from all who are willing! Please if you have anything or are willing to donate money to buy these items, we would appreciate it tremendously! Thank you all for your time helping us with this project and donations.

Tuesdays With Morrie

Today in one of my classes at school we watched part of the movie "Tuesdays With Morrie". I really loved watching it and it really made think about my life. Its a true story about a man named Morrie who has a terminal illness and throughout the story he gives lessons on death, love, and most importantly.... Living. He talks a lot about living each day to its fullest. We were only able to watch about half of it, but he said a few things that really stuck out to me, and even though they talk about death.... I really think they can be applied to anyones life. He said:

"Dying is one thing to be sad about, Living unhappily is another matter."

It really made me stop and think..... Am I truly living my life to the very fullest? Am I happy with the things I have done and the way I treat others?

Another one I really liked was:

"The fear of aging, is lives that havent found meaning."

Have I found meaning in my life? What kind of person do I want to be?

And the last one that I really liked was:

"When you know how to die, you know how to live."

I want to live each day like its my last one and to never regret who I am or the things I have done. I want to live my life to the very fullest!

I really loved watching "Tuesdays with Morrie" and I Highly recommend it!! :)

East Africa Crisis

Oh my goodness. I just watched this video and it made me soo sad! I want to get on a plane right now and go help these poor kids!! But I am so so grateful for all of the people that are helping in Africa right now! It breaks my heart to see these kids starving when they deserve to grow up, and be happy healthy! I am so grateful for all the things I have been blessed with in my life and for the opportunity I had to grow up in a place where I was healthy and blessed with food on the table every night.... I can hardly wait till we get to go to Africa next summer and help kids like this!!

I love this quote

    Mother Teresa

"People are often unreasonable and self-centered. Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of ulterior motives. Be kind anyway.
If you are honest, people may cheat you. Be honest anyway.
If you find happiness, people may be jealous. Be happy anyway.
The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have and it may never be enough. Give your best anyway.
For you see, in the end, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway."
    — Mother Teresa

Mother Teresa was an amazing woman. During her life, she helped the poor, sick, orphaned, and dying. She was also able to open up many orphanages all around the world. Mother Teresa always put others first and devoted her life to serving others, that's why she is a huge role model in my life. She has shown me that no matter what, if we put others first, we will always be happy. This is one of my favorite quotes from her because she teaches us to not worry what others think about you, but instead, just be yourself. We need to do the things we know are right even if it is hard or people make fun of us.

    Who we are

We thought we should share more about us and our hopes and dreams!  Our names are Rachel, Sabrina, and Becca. We met in August 2010 and have been friends ever since! We soon found out that we all had a great love for serving others and wanted to do something that would make a difference in the world. After searching through many websites we found one that we fell in love with. It is a humanitarian trip to either Kenya or Ghana, Africa to work with the children in the orphanages! We knew this was the one we wanted to go on. And our goal is to leave in the late summer of 2012.
We chose the name "Jumoke" (Joo-mo-keh) as the title of our Blog because in the African language, it means "Everyone Loves the Children". We all felt that this is the perfect name because every child deserves to know that they are loved and cared about. Even if its just by one person, children need to have that connection and feel that they are important to someone. We want to raise awareness for the children out there that don't have anyone to take care of them, and to challenge people to show those in your lives that you do love them.
We started this blog as a way to let people know that it is possible to make a difference in this world and that the most important thing is to follow your dreams! We will keep you updated on how we are doing to reach our goal to get to Africa, as well as everyday happenings, and inspirational thoughts.
We hope all of our readers enjoy!
